Oscar de la Renta One-Hour Dress Project

Last spring SewStylish’s blog featured a post highlighting a dress I created for their Spring 2010 issue inspired by the Oscar de la Renta dress above. The entire how-to is featured in the post, and can be created in about an hour using jersey knit fabrics. The shape is a basic sheath dress with a little added gathering along one shoulder seam. It’s very easy to stitch up and makes a great project for beginners (even if you aren’t familiar with sewing on knits).

Free Infinity Scarf Project
It’s almost April, but for those of us living in NYC, you can’t tell from the weather. Instead of arranging springtime bocce matches in the park this year, I’ve been spending my spring mostly indoors, or bundled up so far. If you’re like me and still need to keep staying... Continue Reading

I also wanted to do a quick post on how we did the makeup for the parade. We had so many people asking about it, that I wanted to be sure and show off our technique. First, I used concealer and powder all over my face and then put on... Continue Reading

Burberry Inspired Sewn Necklace Project
In the fall ’08 issue of SewStylish, I wrote an article on how to make a necklace using organza, ribbon, and sew-on jewels. While looking at the inspirational catalog from Neiman Marcus recently, I came across this necklace by Ranjana Khan (above right). The necklace retails for $1,200, and is very similar to... Pintucked flannel vest tutorial on SewStylish
Come on, admit it: You’ve got an old flannel shirt in your closet collecting dust right now. Well, shake it off and get sewing—turn that shirt into a cute vest. On the SewStylish blog, I’ll show you how to do it. I cut the collar and the sleeves off of... Continue Reading
