Fabric 101 – SewStylish (Spring ’09)

In the Spring ’09 issue of SewStylish, I had the great pleasure of interviewing both Eric Sauma and Daniel Vosovic to develop an article on how to shop for fabric. Eric is the owner of the now famous Mood Fabrics, and Daniel was a contestant on Project Runway, now with a book out called Fashion Inside Out:

“Deep in the heart of Manhattan’s fashion district sits Mood Fabrics, a family-owned store that first opened 18 years ago. This treasure trove of textiles boasts three floors of fabric selections and more than 40,000 square feet of space. Made famous as THE fabric destination for aspiring designers on Bravo TV’s Project Runway, Mood itself has become a tourist attraction.

At Mood, you can shop for just about any material your heart desires–and even find the fabrics your favorite designers used for their collections. You’ll recognize goods from high-end lines such as Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenburg, Michael Kors, Anna Sui, and more. With all of these choices, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, so we invited Daniel Vosovic–author of Fashion Inside Out–and Eric Sauma–the owner of Mood Fabrics–to shed a little light on navigating a fabric store so you walk our with the right fabrics for your designs…”
