Seams Right – STITCH (Fall ’11)

In the Fall 2011 issue of STITCH, you can find an article by me all about different types of seams and how to select and stitch them with confidence.

“When it comes to putting together projects using fabric and thread, sewing the perfect seam can be incredibly satisfying for any sewist. Those seams are what hold your handmade projects together, so it’s important to select the best one for the job and sew it properly.

Here you’ll find six basic techniques to add to your sewing arsenal that will help you stitch seams that look great both inside and out. Choosing the right seaming method depends on your fabric, the project type, and the seam shape and position. Practice each one on scrap fabric to master the technique and make sure the finished look is what you want before diving into your real pieces. You’ll soon see that the perfect seam is only stitches away.”
